Genshitsu Sen (Urasenke 15th-generation iemoto) had been under treatment for an illness, but passed away suddenly at 12:42 a.m. on August 14, 2025. With deep appreciation for your support during his lifetime, we regret to announce his passing.

The wake and funeral will be held privately. We are planning to hold a farewell event at a later date.

With all due respect, we firmly request that you do not send floral tributes, offerings, or condolence money.

My father suffered a fall in May and hit his hip badly. From around that time, walking became difficult, and he chose to be hospitalized.

Although his rehabilitation was progressing well, it appeared that his overall physical condition had gradually deteriorated over the past few days, partly because he was 102 years old after all.

Right after talking with the nurse last night, he suddenly had trouble breathing, and in spite of efforts to treat his condition, he passed away. That was at 12:42 a.m.

While he was alive, he would say, “I don’t want to live a prolonged bedridden life hooked up to IVs and such,” and I consider that the manner in which he died was truly dignified and in line with that wish.

On behalf of my father, I would like to express his gratitude for the many opportunities provided to him by so many of you.
