Scenes at the Urasenke Foundation Mexico Branch

Scenes at the estate of Sr. Behar

The official convention hotel was the Hotel Nikko Mexico, where a sign-in desk was awaiting the registrants' arrival the evening of Sep. 22 and next morning. Throughout the morning of Sep. 23, the participants went in bus groups to visit both the Urasenke Foundation Mexico Branch quarters, by the section of the capital called University City, and the estate of Roberto Soki BEHAR, the president of the Urasenke Tankokai Mexico Association, located in the outskirts of the capital's Tlalpan precinct. At the Branch, they were served matcha in the Japanese-style garden and saw the chanoyu facilities. At the estate of Sr. Behar, they viewed his tea houses "Bosen-an" and "Sunkaraku-an" that stand in quiet roji settings; saw an exhibition of chanoyu articles owned by Sr. Behar; and viewed the striking Zen rock garden in the courtyard. That evening, the participants who were with the group plan from Japan met with Daisosho (the title by which Dr. Sen is generally known in Japan since having retired from his position as Iemoto) and Urasenke Tankokai executive director SEKINE Hideji at the Camino Real Hotel, for a group rally and dinner party.
