Royal Visit to Urasenke Konnichian
by Crown Prince and Princess of Nepal

In the morning of July 9, 2005, during their ten-day official visit to Japan, Crown Prince Paras Bir Bikram Shah Dev and Crown Princess Himani Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah of the Kingdom of Nepal were guests at Urasenke Konnichian. They were accompanied by the Foreign Affairs Minister of Nepal, Ramesh Nath PANDEY, the Royal Nepalese Ambassador to Japan, Ramesh Ananda VAIDYA, with Mrs. Vaidya, and an entourage of twenty-seven others, including a team of Nepalese cameramen and reporters.

The royal couple and twelve of the attendants were shown into the Hosensai tearoom, where Gyotei NAKAMURA Soseki represented the Urasenke head family and prepared matcha for them.

Ambassador Vaidya was instrumental in arranging for this chanoyu reception for the Crown Prince and Princess at Konnichian, because the royal couple, in making their trip to Japan on the occasion of the Aichi World Expo 2005 National Day of Nepal, had expressed a deep interest in coming in touch with Japan's cultural traditions.
