Immediately after the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake, Urasenke established a disaster relief office and called out for a cooperative effort from all Urasenke teachers and students to provide support to the many Urasenke members and associates who were affected by the disaster. There was a significant response, with which Urasenke has been able to quickly provide disaster/evacuation victims with monetary donations, on-site support, and aid in speeding up the reconstruction of affected areas. Your kind donations continue to this day, and as the recovery from this great disaster still remains distant, we thankfully continue to direct these contributions to those in need.

Until now, the Urasenke disaster relief office distributed support in various ways on a case-by-case basis. From May of 2013, Urasenke will continue to provide support through the Tanko Mutual Aid disaster relief program.

Among the types of support being provided, Urasenke is continuing the work of replacing lost Urasenke licenses (Kyojo-Shikaku) and introducing refugee members to nearby Urasenke chapter workshops.
