| ANNOUNCEMENT Chado exhibition in Helsinki, Finland |
| The national Sinebrychoffin Art Museum of Finland is having an exhibition to introduce the Japanese cultural activity of chanoyu. It is titled "Chado: The Japanese Way of Tea," and runs from January 29 through June 28, 2009. The exhibition, focusing on the range of articles conventionally used during a full-course chanoyu get-together (chaji), is being realized through the cooperation of the Urasenke Grand Master and Head House, together with the Chado Urasenke Tankokai Finland Association. For the exhibition, thirty-five articles, including scrolls and items for the kaiseki meal, have been personally selected and loaned by Grand Master SEN Soshitsu XVI from the family collection. They are on the theme of spring and the seasonal Girls' Festival. The exhibition hall also features a tearoom, complete with hearth built into the floor (ro). In conjunction with the exhibition, there will be several lectures and chanoyu presentations at the museum, conducted by members of the Chado Urasenke Tankokai Finland Association. |
