2012 Spring Exhibition
Seasonal Illustrated Inscriptions and Waiting Room Décor

March 27 (Tue) - June 10 (Sun)

The 2012 Spring Exhibition takes up the gasan or "painting with inscription" genre of hanging scrolls used in chanoyu, together with other types of articles which contribute to the décor of the machiai or chanoyu waiting room, such as smoking sets, cups for the refreshment called kumidashi served in the chanoyu waiting room, and hand warmers. It is a changing exhibition, with approximately sixty displays at all times, including many gasan which are fit for hanging in the alcove of a tea room as the centerpiece of a chanoyu gathering, and many of a lighter quality suitable for display in the waiting room.
